QMotion EMEA brings blind control to
UK HQ of lighting intelligence company.
QMotion EMEA has provided a versatile,
easy to operate, automated blind solution for the newly renovated UK HQ of
global lighting controls manufacturer, Helvar.
Helvar worked with the office design
and fit out specialist, Morgan Lovell to identify their future workspace
strategy which would then inform their new HQ. The result, completed in Summer
2017, blends people, space and technology into an interior design that
successfully accommodates the various working styles of the Helvar departments
and staff. The technology installation supports this design by incorporating
human-centric lighting, lighting control and QMotion EMEA blind control into an
intuitive and easy-to-use scheme.
In the principal meeting room,
versatility presented a key challenge since the space is used for meetings,
presentations, training and product demonstrations by Helvar employees. Helvar
was especially keen to use the area as a showcase for its single room,
human-centric lighting solution, ILLUSTRIS POWER. With this technology, users
can choose between four pre-set lighting scenes and different light intensities
or, alternatively, they can simply rotate a finger on the colour temperature
wheel to select the right level for human-centric ambient light. As the room
also features four large floor-to-ceiling windows running down one side,
automated blinds from QMotion EMEA were specified to provide additional
flexibility and convenience whilst allowing appropriate levels of daylight to
be brought into the room, depending on external conditions.
"The meeting room is a vitally
important, multi-purpose space for our company,” says Craig Downard,
International Support & Project Management - Lighting Systems at Helvar.
“The automated blinds from QMotion help us switch quickly and conveniently
between different room uses, and cut down on direct sunlight and glare from
outside, when needed. They also offer a solution that complements the
intelligence of our own lighting control technology which we frequently
demonstrate in this space to potential customers.”
Four QMotion EMEA motorised roller
blinds have been fitted in the Helvar meeting room as part of a broader
contract of over 20 automated blinds for the entire HQ. Controlled by a
handheld remote, they can be synchronised to move as a group or operated
individually to lower to a pre-programmed position. A manual override function
ensures that any occupant can pull on any blind, at any time, without damaging
the automated mechanism.
QMotion EMEA blinds are ultra-energy
efficient thanks to the company’s patented spring-counterbalancing system which
keeps motor power consumption to an absolute minimum and delivers near silent
operation in every application. The QMotion blinds deliver an attractive,
unobtrusive installation, reducing side light gaps to 13mm on each side for
optimum room shading performance.
Helvar is planning to integrate
control of the QMotion EMEA blinds onto a single platform with its lighting
intelligence technology in the future. A full range of high quality fabric
